Details

Most therapists agree that an effective psychotherapy depends on the patient's willingness to be emotionally open with themselves and with their therapist. Seasoned therapists also recognize that many patients come to therapy with significant barriers to emotional intimacy, and that these barriers often impede their progress. Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (STDP) provides both a conceptual framework and specific techniques to address resistance so that therapists can help patients more quickly resolve the underlying emotional conflicts that are generating their symptoms. This presentation will outline some of the conceptual framework of STDP and provide examples, illustrated with video footage, of how to work with resistance efficiently and effectively to help patients achieve their goals.
